A narrative poem in dialogue warning of an easy downhill path of seduction that leads to spiritual ruin and death. Rossetti uses the journey motif and natural imagery to expose the temptation of worldly love divorced from virtue. The poem darkly concludes that once embarked upon this path, there is no turning back.
